We’re back from our summer break with LIVE MUSIC! The talented musical improvisers Randy McKean and Amy Reed will accompany the jam. Rebecca Bone will lead the warm-up.
AMY REED is a local painter, composer and sound artist integrating field recordings and improvisation into their practice.
Lauded as “on the ball, uncomplacent, fun even” by Wire magazine, multi-reedist, composer, sideman and bandleader RANDY MCKEAN is off the grid and invites you to join him. McKean’s current work in the vibrant Bay Area, Sacramento and Nevada County scenes includes clarinetist for the Euro Balkan group Beaucoup Chapeaux, EEb Contralto clarinet bass chair for guitarist David Dvorin’s Flounder and Pocket Quartet, and music director for the contact dance collective Shadow Cabinet. McKean has composed works for orchestra, wind quartet, and string quartet. As promoter and producer, McKean presents the Col. MaCaw’s Magical Cure-All concert series and co-leads its spin-off record label Cure-All Records with Dvorin.

Open to all levels of experience, the Nevada City Contact Improv Jam is a place to learn, explore, connect, create and play.
Practiced within groups of curious individuals, Contact Improvisation (CI) is a unique partner dance form in which shared points of physical contact provide the starting place for interactive movement improvisation and exploration. This dance practice explores the skills of falling, rolling, counterbalance, sharing weight, tuning into subtle sensation, and being responsive to partners and surroundings.
SCHEDULE:
11am – Guided warm-up into open jamming
12:50pm – Closing circle
RATES:
$15-20 Sliding scale
The warm-up gives each person a chance to delve into their practice of CI whether in building fundamental skills or gaining a more in-depth understanding of the form.
